Account Manager

Job Introduction

Are you a driven, results-focused sales professional looking to make a real impact? We’re especially keen to hear from candidates with Mechanical & Electrical, construction, plant or hire industry experience.

If this sounds like you, join MEP Hire (part of the industry-leading Vp plc Group) and play a key role in expanding our reach, driving revenue and building strong, long-term client partnerships across the Southwest of England.

This role will cover a defined Southwest territory, with Bristol, Gloucester, Swindon, Plymouth and Exeter being the main conurbations. You’ll be at the heart of exciting projects within the construction and rental sectors, working with major subcontractors, national accounts and customers across the region to deliver real value.

As an Account Manager, you’ll have the autonomy to develop your territory, strengthen existing relationships and identify new commercial opportunities, making this an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys being out in the market and building lasting customer partnerships.

Key Responsibilities:

  • As an Account Manager, you'll be the face of MEP Hire across your South West territory, owning a defined geographical area and delivering sustainable revenue growth across our innovative range of products and services.
  • Develop and manage customer relationships across the region, with a particular focus on Bristol, Gloucester, Swindon, Plymouth, Exeter and the surrounding areas.
  • Drive growth and hire revenue while maintaining profitability within our pricing and discount framework.
  • Strengthen relationships with existing customers at both head office and site level to unlock new opportunities and deeper partnerships.
  • Identify and win new customers, with a focus on subcontractors working on major construction projects.
  • Increase awareness of MEP Hire and the wider Vp Group as trusted, expert partners within the industry.
  • Build strong local relationships that support the strategic objectives of our National Account partnerships.
  • Use our CRM platform to maintain accurate customer information, plan activity and manage your sales pipeline effectively.
  • Operate on a 20-day cycle to ensure smart, efficient journey planning and maximise customer engagement across the territory.
  • Gain strong technical knowledge of our equipment and stay current on key regulations so you can provide informed, value-led solutions.
  • Use your understanding of our products' features and benefits to demonstrate what sets MEP Hire apart in the market.

What We’re Looking For:

  • We’re looking for a proactive and ambitious Account Manager who ideally has experience within the Mechanical & Electrical, construction, plant or hire industry and thrives on achieving goals and building strong, trust-based customer relationships.
  • Based within, or well positioned to effectively cover, the Southwest of England, particularly the Bristol, Gloucester, Swindon, Plymouth and Exeter areas.
  • A solid track record in sales, ideally within construction, equipment hire, M&E or a related industry.
  • A natural networker who is confident engaging with decision-makers at all levels.
  • Experience identifying new prospects and unlocking subcontractor spend on major construction projects.
  • Comfortable working independently across a large geographical territory, with strong time management and journey-planning skills.
  • CRM-savvy, with a keen eye for keeping customer and pipeline data accurate, relevant and useful.
  • Experience developing customer relationships at project and site level.
  • Naturally product-orientated, with the confidence to demonstrate equipment when required.
  • Highly motivated with strong commercial awareness.
  • Action-orientated with the ability to make things happen and convert opportunities into results.
  • Excellent presentation, influencing, objection-handling and communication skills.
  • A valid UK driving licence.
