Lifting Equipment Technician – Technical Level 3 Apprenticeship

Brandon Hirestation is excited to offer a dynamic apprenticeship opportunity for an individual eager to pursue a career as a Lifting Technician and achieve official qualification from the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA). This apprenticeship is designed to provide hands-on experience, comprehensive training, and the chance to obtain a level 3 recognized qualification in the lifting equipment industry. The duration of the course is 24 months.

What actually is a Lifting Equipment Technician? The broad purpose of the occupation is to repair, maintain, modify, inspect, test, install and assemble lifting equipment to ensure its suitability and safety for a continued period of service. They provide documentation and technical advice to customers and check that equipment is being maintained in accordance with statutory requirements. Additionally, the role may include the removal of equipment from service or decommissioning where it is considered to be unsafe and does not meet regulatory standards.

What is lifting equipment? Examples of equipment range from (but are not limited to) hoists used for the lifting of lighting rigs at festivals to chain slings on construction sites. Equipment can be in almost any type of industry, including onshore or offshore, in car plants, aircraft manufacturing organisations, ship building, yacht building, food processing, warehousing and general engineering facilities.

Your Apprenticeship programme will last 2 years and will look like this

In Year 1 you will undertake basic tasks including learning all about the different equipment you’ll use, the functionality of that as well as inspecting this and the compliance that sits behind it, working alongside your line manager as they guide you through this. You’re additional learning for the formal qualification will be facilitated by Qualitrain and is delivered entirely online covering the full apprenticeship programme.

In Year 2 you will build and develop upon what you have learnt so far. This will include diagnosing faults and learning all about repairs and servicing of the lifting equipment. Again your learning will be facilitated online by Qualitrain.

We offer a competitive annual salary of 15,000 in your first year, which will rise to upwards of £24,000-£26,000 when you are qualified. Along with on-the-job training and development provided by in tandem by ourselves and our training provider Qualitrain leading to a nationally recognised qualification. On successful completion and qualification a permanent position is guaranteed.

• Qualifications Required – A minimum of Grade 4 in both GCSE Maths and English Language or Scottish Highers in Grade 5 or above in Maths and English Language is essential
