Transport Controller (North)

Job Introduction

Reporting to the Operations Support Manager as part of a team of two Transport Controllers looking after the entire UK, this role covers the Northern region of MEP Hire. 

Ideally based in Leeds or the surrounding area you will be responsible for the day to day compliance of the MEP Commercial fleet and drivers ensuring the business is compliant in all aspects of the transport function.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Review of daily checks and address issues identified
  • Tacho compliance, coaching and recommending action for addressing non-conformities
  • Ensure currency of driving licence checks
  • Daily review of PCNs, speeding and parking fines and follow up action where required
  • Deliver driver inductions and training
  • Monitor attendance at mandatory training, including CPC, FORS and IPAF
  • Post-accident investigations to establish root cause and required action / training
  • Maintain log of commercial vehicles – location, lease dates, mileage etc.
  • End of lease vehicle checks
  • Ensure roadworthiness of the fleet – regular maintenance / servicing / MOT’s / tailgates
  • Vehicle spot checks
  • Arrange spot hires and monitor off hires / approval for extension of spot hire
  • Ensure all spot hire vehicles are compliant (insurance / tolls / restrictions)

What We’re Looking For 

  • From a transport background with a thorough understanding of all compliance-related issues
  • Good communication skills
  • IT literate with a good understanding of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Valid driving licence
  • Flexible and willing to travel nationally and work in different locations across the UK as required by the role
  • Approachable, with a desire to help resolve issues
  • Ideally based in Leeds or the surrounding area
