Workshop Technician (Safety Equipment)

Job Introduction

Working onsite at our customer’s site in Barry, DOW Chemicals, this is an excellent opportunity to join our business in a role where you will work with safety equipment which is used in lifesaving activities such as fall arrest, confined space, gas detection and breathing air apparatus. 

Being based in person, onsite will mean you’re dealing directly with our DOW Chemical colleagues. You will be responsible for the allocation (both issue and return) of kit as well as covering the ‘Test and Run’ of this equipment to ensure it does not require any further service or repair. This role will suit someone with a technical and customer service background or someone looking to develop these skills and really make this role their own.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the allocation (issue and collection) of all the required equipment, onsite for our DOW customers
  • Be first point of contact for our DOW customers, managing requests accordingly
  • Test and run equipment in line with Original Equipment Manufacturer requirements
  • Ability to assess whether equipment can be made available for hire in a cost-effective way
  • Ability to use various internal systems to record allocation and tracking of kit as well as servicing activity and consumption of spare parts
  • Aware of third-party processes and can identify equipment that cannot be serviced or repaired in-house
  • Ability to make accurate assessments of time required to complete test and run activity
  • Able to accurately record spare parts used in servicing and ensure serviced equipment is in the correct system status
  • When considered necessary or appropriate by the company you may be required to carry out any duties considered within your skill and competence to assist the smooth running of the business


What We’re Looking For


  • A genuine interest in technology, engineering, electronics, mechanics or practical problem solving (possess basic understanding of engineering)
  • Customer focused individual, comfortable dealing with a wide range of people
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Competent skills in IT and literacy to fulfil administrative requirements
  • A willingness to learn and develop new technical skills
  • Good attention to detail and a methodical approach to work
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Previous experience or qualifications in engineering, electronics, mechanics, construction, automotive, IT or a related field would be advantageous, but are not essential
