Group Head of Transactional Finance

Job Introduction

Our Group Head of Transactional Finance is accountable for the Accounts Payable, Credit Control and Accounts Receivable teams across multiple shared service centres in the UK. 

This pivotal role ensures the efficient processing and accurate recording of financial transactions, timely payments and effective debt recovery. The Transactional Finance team is made up of around 70 people in three locations across the UK.  

Key Responsibilities 

  • Provide leadership and direction to team members, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Take responsibility for all aspects of transactional finance processing and reporting routines delivered by the teams, including month-end close, internal and external reporting and audit queries and actions.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans and policies for the team, focus on enhanced delivery and cost effectiveness through a standardised approach where appropriate.
  • Support the functional leads to prioritise workload and monitor resources to maintain effective control measures and deliver best-in-class service and work with them to identify process improvement opportunities.
  • Foster a culture of using technological solutions to improve customer service and internal experience, and support the functional leads with system improvements and implementation.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, including senior management, business units and external partners.
  • Collaborate with other central areas, such as procurement, property, group finance and IT to support cross-functional initiatives and projects. 
  • Plan ahead to ensure the teams are able to deal with future changes (for example legislation, tax rules, business acquisitions etc).
  • Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations, tax laws and internal company policies.

What We’re Looking For 

  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop staff.
  • Proven experience leading Accounts Payable, Credit Control and Accounts Receivable teams.
  • Advanced proficiency in financial systems and software (e.g. ERP systems, BI tools, Office).
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on driving business results.
  • A positive attitude and wish to take responsibility for the quality of customer service provided by the shared service centres.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to convey financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Ability to prioritise workload to ensure both short and long term goals are met.
  • Experience of process improvement implementation in an organization.
  • Flexibility – as the role covers our SSCs in Harrogate, Long Eaton & Bristol there would be regular travel required to these locations
  • Ideally, a relevant professional qualification and chartered body membership.
