Group Health and Safety Programme Manager

Job Introduction

We're seeking a proactive and visionary Group Health and Safety Programme Manager to support the successful delivery of our Home Safe and Healthy strategy. This is a pivotal leadership role, overseeing the coordination and implementation of key health and safety workstreams across all Vp plc divisions.

This role provides a unique opportunity to drive strategic initiatives, working at the forefront of change with a direct impact on operational safety and health across the group. You will play a critical role in shaping and embedding a progressive, people-centric culture of safety, while championing innovation and continuous improvement.

The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker and skilled communicator, with the ability to influence at all levels and implement practical, risk-based solutions across a diverse business landscape.


Key Responsibilities 

  • Cross-Divisional Collaboration: Partner with divisional teams to understand unique operational risks, align goals, and ensure consistency in the application of health and safety standards.
  • Programme Delivery: Drive health and safety programmes from initial concept to full implementation, including planning, stakeholder engagement, risk assessments, assurance activities, and performance monitoring through KPIs.
  • Policy & Process Development: Aid in the design, review, and refine group-wide health and safety policies, procedures, and systems to ensure they remain effective, up to date, and legally compliant.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with teams and individuals to secure buy-in and promote a shared accountability for our health and safety objectives
  • Training & Development: Lead the creation and rollout of targeted training initiatives that enhance competence, encourage proactive behaviours, and support professional development.
  • Performance Monitoring & Reporting: Develop metrics and dashboards to track the effectiveness of initiatives, provide regular reports to the executive team, and identify areas for improvement.
  • Culture & Change Management: Be a visible advocate for excellence, fostering a positive, inclusive culture that motivates and engages teams at all levels.


What We’re Looking For
 

  • Proven experience in successfully delivering health and safety programmes in a complex or multi-site environment, ideally including transport and road risk management
  • NEBOSH Certificate or Diploma (or equivalent recognised qualification in occupational health and safety).
  • Chartered Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH) is desirable. 
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environmental), and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems).
  • Demonstrable ability to manage and improve performance within teams; strong people leadership and coaching skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of producing clear reports and engaging presentations for both operational teams and senior stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to build rapport and collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Commercially aware and strategically minded, with the ability to align health and safety initiatives with broader business goals.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach with the confidence to challenge the status quo and lead cultural change.
