Design Engineer

Job Introduction

We are looking for a Design Engineer to produce safe and effective design solutions for below-ground excavations and structural propping. You will take responsibility for delivering high-quality, accurate work to meet deadlines, ensuring designs are consistently presented to a professional standard.

The role involves handling projects of simple complexity independently and contributing to more complex schemes with support. You will also provide technical guidance and assistance to colleagues, customers, and the sales team, while managing your own workload effectively.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce design solutions for below-ground excavations and structural propping.
• Lead the preparation of deliverables for projects of simple complexity (Cat1).
• Contribute to design schemes of moderate complexity with supervision.
• Support colleagues, sales teams, and customers with technical advice and training.
• Manage personal workload and project tasks to meet agreed deadlines.
• Ensure consistent quality, accuracy, and clarity in design outputs.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technical standards and requirements.
• Comply with health, safety, and Construction (Design and Management) regulations.
• Keep accurate and organised documentation and records.
• Identify opportunities for improvement and contribute positively to team initiatives.

What We’re Looking For

• Degree in civil and/or structural engineering, or equivalent qualification (BEng, MEng, BSc, MSc).
• Minimum of 1 year of relevant postgraduate experience, or HND with EngTech MICE and 4 years’ relevant experience.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to link information from different sources.
• Clear and professional communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships.
• A collaborative approach and willingness to share knowledge and support colleagues.
• Awareness of own limitations and readiness to seek or provide support when needed.
• Ability to see issues and solutions from different perspectives.
• Commercial awareness, with an understanding of how actions affect business outcomes.
• Commitment to maintaining professional standards
• Organised and self-motivated, able to manage time and tasks effectively.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD software including Revit is desirable
