Head of Finance

Job Introduction

The Head of Finance for MEP Hire is a dynamic and influential role, working alongside the Divisional Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to deliver a high-impact business-partnering service. As a trusted member of the SLT, you will bring financial insight to operations, sales, and commercial activities—helping to shape strategy and guide critical decision-making.

Ideally located in either Long Eaton or Leeds your responsibilities will span management and KPI reporting, budgeting and planning, and involvement in key strategic projects and ad-hoc initiatives. Acting as the vital link between the division, Group Finance, and the Shared Service Centre, you’ll ensure divisional goals are fully aligned with wider group priorities—driving both performance and collaboration across the business.


Key Responsibilities 

  • Lead the divisional finance team, delivering accurate reporting, analysis, and forecasts
  • Prepare budgets and performance reports for the SLT, divisional board, and Plc Executive
  • Provide financial guidance on strategic initiatives, including M&A and major investments
  • Build strong relationships across operations, sales, and commercial teams
  • Support decision-making, improve efficiency, and control costs
  • Work with Group Finance and Shared Service Centre to ensure alignment and accountability
  • Provide timely management information to drive operational improvements
  • Recommend and implement solutions to improve performance and efficiency
  • Promote continuous improvement in finance systems and processes
  • Ensure accurate, compliant financial reporting in line with IFRS and regulations
  • Advise on operational decisions such as procurement, leasing, and asset management
  • Support risk management and work to minimise bad debt
  • Lead, develop, and motivate the finance tea
  • Maintain and improve departmental procedures and governance


What We’re Looking For 

  • Qualified accountant (CIMA/ACCA or equivalent)
  • Experience of working in partnership with non-financial managers, particularly at senior level
  • Proven ability to operate effectively during periods of organisational change
  • Passionate about driving business improvement and adding measurable value
  • Ambitious, driven, and able to work independently
  • Strong Leadership skills aligned with the Vp Leadership Framework
  • Strong track record of meeting deadlines and managing multiple priorities
  • Excellent financial modelling and analytical skills
  • Strong IT capability, with advanced Excel skills and experience of multiple reporting platforms
  • Experience with Power Pivot and Tableau (desirable but not essential)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skill
  • Commercially astute, with the ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on delivery
